Casa Ruben
Casa Ruben Foundation
Casa Ruben is a non-for profit service organization founded in 2003 by Ligia Peralta, MD to honor the memory of Dr. Ruben Peralta, her father and mentor.
Casa Ruben provides health screening, immunizations and health education to uninsured minority youth and young adults in Baltimore and surrounding counties. With volunteers, Casa Ruben organizes and participates in health fairs throughout Baltimore City, and Baltimore, Howard, Prince George, Montgomery, Worcester, Somerset and Wicomico counties on weekends.
It was recently selected for its outstanding service in the community by the Baltimore Ravens, M&T Bank and the Governor’s Office on Service and Volunteerism to be in the Honor Rows at the January 2nd, 2011 Ravens game against the Cincinnati Bengals.
As Honor Rows recipients, Casa Ruben was nominated by the M&T Bank and received 65 game tickets and Honor Row T-shirts. Children and youth, parents, volunteers and community collaborators including founder Dr. Ligia Peralta were in attendance.
The volunteers received a tour of the field before the game and were recognized during the third quarter on the big screens. While on the field, they took pictures and watched the NFL players practice. Some players greeted youth volunteers.
